Forensic Anthropology uses several techniques for identification. Usually the primary techniques are dental arch examination, papscopy and DNA examination. This case shows that the investigation of infraorbital prosthesis in the occasion of the anthropological examination. In January 2016, an unidentified human body entered the morgue of the Coordenadoria de Medicina Legal (COMEL) of Pericia Forense do Estado do Ceará (PEFOCE), in the city of Fortaleza, already in skeletonization phase. The initial external examination revealed that the bone was incomplete, and presence of a consolidated old fracture was observed in the left zygomatic region with numbered infraorbital plaque (no. 100238-2592) – fixation device of the system of 1.5mm of 6 holes, positioned in zygomatic maxillary suture, on the left. The plate was secured with 2 screws on each side of the fracture. The qualitative characteristics of the skull were analyzed, which revealed characteristics compatible with those of a male. Analysis of the cranial sutures, sacral analysis, pubic symphysis (Suchey-Brooks method) and vertebrae, revealed a final stage of suture closure compatible with age over 60 years. An investigative process was initialized to carry out the definitive identification. The largest trauma hospital in the state of Ceará was contacted. Through the numbering of the plaque and its invoice, the date of the surgery and the patient in whom the prosthesis was used were identified. The definitive identification was confirmed, corroborated by Forensic Genetics. Thus, an auxiliary instrument was verified in the medical-legal analyzes of the Anthropology service.
