ABSTRACT

Studies on cocaine and the determination of their metabolites in the individual today are a very important tool for the application of justice, since several statistical studies have demonstrated that a high percentage of illicit facts is carried out under the influence of this drug. For these studies, kinetic evaluations on cocaine were carried out to determine the condition of the subject in the moment of the fact.

Post-mortem studies of individuals deceased after consumption of cocaine are even more important to determine a possible pharmacological sinergy, based on the kinetics and the dynamics of cocaine and its physiochemical properties, in order to guide forensic science regarding its possible means of action and interaction, and at the same time determine concentrations of cocaine and their metabolites in blood and hair. The latter has created a matrix of very recent investigations where metabolite storage is observed for a long period.

Based on these facts, the authors comment on the effects of cocaine on different systems to acknowledge its alterations as a possible cause for the perpetration of criminal acts or faults that are sanctioned by juridical classifications.

Keywords: cocaine, legal medicine, medical-legal analysis, metabolites.
