ABSTRACT
Introduction: Domestic violence is a public health problem and a serious violation of human rights, and is characterized as “any action or omission that harms the well-being, physical or psychological integrity, or the freedom and right to full development of a family member,” and is also applied to the male victim. In this sense, article 129 of the Brazilian Penal Code (Decree-Law 2848/40) typifies the crime of bodily injury that has by definition “offense to the bodily integrity or health of another”. This study seeks to analyze, from a case report, how domestic violence against men is concealed in society. Methodology: Male, victim of domestic violence in the year 2020, attended in the emergency room and then, by evaluation of findings of bodily injury, in the Forensic Institute post, reports having suffered extensive burns by boiling water after disagreement with his wife. The physical examination identified burns to the trunk, upper limb, face and neck, with the presence of vesicles with liquid content and erythema. Results: Although they are usually present in the role of aggressor, men are also victims of domestic violence. From a literature review and using this specific case as an example, we found that men are three times more likely to be burn victims at home than women. Final Considerations: This case alerts us to the need to create public policies that contemplate men in violent situations in order to preserve their physical integrity.
