THE IMPORTANCE OF VIRTOPSY IN ELUCIDING THE CAUSE OF DEATH AND ITS LEGAL CONSEQUENCES - A CASE REPORT OF EXCLUSION OF SILVERMAN SYNDROME
RESULTADOS: A literatura demonstra parca produção científica acerca do tema, justificando a relevância desse trabalho.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Virtopsy is one of the most modern techniques in Forensic Medicine, and is based on the use of imaging diagnostics to analyze and document facts of forensic relevance, more quickly than autopsy, and is a complementary method to the latter. Thus, this discussion presents the case of an infant who died due to cervical constriction when trying to get out of the crib without supervision. The body was sent to the IML, where a virtopsy was performed, which allowed the exclusion of Silverman Syndrome and the release of the victim for funeral rites. METHODOLOGY: Search and analysis of articles in a non-systematic manner in databases with the term “virtopsy”, associated with the contextualization with the virtopsy/autopsy report of the case discussed, and concepts from the classical bibliography of Forensic Medicine. RESULTS: The literature shows little scientific production on the subject, justifying the relevance of this work. The expert report found only a cervical constriction injury, which justifies the diagnosed cause of death – mechanical asphyxia. DISCUSSION: This case report demonstrates the relevance of virtual psy as a complementary technique to the resources of Forensic Medicine, allowing the speedy release of the body and elucidation of the innocence of the parents, especially in cases of suspected abuse, which require the performance of several complementary exams to the autopsy, the results of which can take several months. CONCLUSION: In the case analyzed, virtual psy was a method that allowed a quick outcome, evidencing the importance of the technique, which is becoming increasingly relevant in the practice of the forensic expert.
