INTEGRATED MULTIMODAL DOCUMENTATION OF HOMICIDE SCENES: OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE IN FORENSIC SCIENCE AND LEGAL MEDICINE WITH IMMERSIVE CONTENT ACCESS VIA QR CODE

Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Crime scene documentation is a fundamental component of criminal investigations. Recent technological advances have enabled the development of innovative tools capable of improving forensic documentation. OBJECTIVE: To describe the operational experience of integrating drone imaging, panoramic 360-degree recording, smart glasses and complementary audiovisual resources in homicide scene investigations. METHODS: Observational descriptive study involving 28 homicide scenes examined between March 2025 and June 2026 by the Homicide Division of the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro. A multimodal documentation protocol was developed using DJI Mini 2®, Insta360 X3®, Ray-Ban Meta® smart glasses and mobile phone recordings. The collected data were integrated into a single audiovisual product accessible through QR Codes incorporated into forensic reports. RESULTS: Twenty-eight homicide scenes were documented. Twenty-five occurred in outdoor environments, two inside residences and one inside a motor vehicle. Drone imaging was used in 23 cases. In two investigations, aerial imagery contributed to identifying the probable origin of gunfire. No operational failures were observed. The methodology improved spatial understanding of evidence distribution and expanded access to forensic information. CONCLUSION: Integrated multimodal documentation represents a promising technological innovation capable of improving forensic documentation, crime scene reconstruction and dissemination of technical evidence.
