The Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML) located in Afogados da Ingazeira, Pernambuco, Brazil, was established to perform sexological medical examinations. The objective of this study was to analyse medical forensic reports from victims of sexual violence admitted at the IML in 2018.

EVALUATION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHIC TECHNIQUE IN FORENSIC AUTOPSIES IN THE MEDICAL LEGAL INSTITUTE OF PORTO VELHO, BRAZIL

In this paper, the authors test the hypothesis that the current photographs, presented in the forensic reports of the Legal Medical Institute, of Porto Velho, in Brazil, would not meet the quality criteria to contribute to the forensic process. We concluded that more than half of the incorporated photographs (52.6%) were not technically feasible and, regarding this criterion, they should not have been used in the reports. Strategies are suggested to enhance the quality of forensic photographs.
